Fisherman holding up a fall largemouth bass

Targeting largemouth in northern Minnesota this time of year can be a lot of fun, here are some early fall bass tips to make the most of it! As summer turns to fall, the fishing will continue to improve. Below is a screenshot of my Navionics app. The black line shows the edge of the bulrush, the red shows deep cabbage. If I were to fish in this type of location the first thing I would do is head to the deeper cabbage to see if they are sitting deep. Some baits I might throw in deeper cabbage would be:

– A Northland Jungle Jig® with a plastic trailer

Crankbait

– Texas-rigged soft plastic stick worm with a 1/16 or 1/8oz weight

– Dropshot with Impulse® Leech

After I have tried deeper cabbage, I like to work my way in to work the bulrush edge. I like spots like the one shown below because there is a nice steep break. Some baits I like to throw here are:

– Northland Jungle Jig® with trailer

– Weightless Texas or wacky rigged Impulse® Dipstick Worm

– Crankbait (on steep breaks)

Hopefully, these early fall bass tips help you catch some fall giants! Good luck and tight lines!
