NEW SECRET WEAPON: UV ON ICE!
NORTHLAND’S OPTICALLY ENHANCED UV LINEUP
LURES FISH IN LOW LIGHT
Bemidji, Minn.—Hardwater warriors across the Ice Belt are realizing lure finishes that harness the sun’s ultraviolet light can help them catch more fish, even deep beneath winter’s darkening icepack, so bring that UV on ice.
Not surprisingly, Northland is leading the charge with a wave of UV-enhanced lures including the UV Buck-Shot® Spoon and UV Forage Minnow® Series. “Special coatings that reflect and react to UV light can make it easier for fish to see your lures,” explains Team Northland pro-staffer and ice-fishing sage Scott Glorvigen.
“Unlike standard colors that quickly fade as depth increases, lures with reflective base coats, matte finishes, fluorescent paints, and other optical brighteners absorb water-penetrating, short-wave UV light and re-emit it in vivid fish-attracting colors, even at depths of 100 feet or more,” Glorvigen explains.
Like time-tested glow-in-the-dark lure paints, Glorvigen says UV finishes raise the bar in visibility—and can complement your glow program. “Glow works wonders in low-vis conditions and at night,” he says. “UV brighteners gather and reflect ambient UV light to attract passing predators, so they’re best in low light, stained water, and whenever there is reduced light penetration from cloud cover, snow, and ice.”
For example, in side-by-side testing, Glorvigen has chronicled dramatically higher daytime catch rates from the dark waters of mighty Lake of the Woods when using Northland’s UV Buck-Shot® Spoon versus similar spoons lacking UV enhancements.
Northland’s UV winter ice fishing tackle lineup includes the UV Buck-Shot® Spoon, UV Forage Minnow® Fry, UV Forage Minnow® Jig, and UV Forage Minnow® Spoon. All are available in brilliant forage patterns hand-selected by Team Northland pro-staff.
